The remainder is the amount that cannot be divided into the equation, in other words, the leftovers.

Example:

7 / 2 = 3

So now to figure out the remainder we multiply the divider by the answer.

[in other words: 7 / (divider) = (answer)]

[divider * answer]

2 * 3 = 6

So now to calculate the remainder we subtract this new answer by the number we started out with, in this case 7.

7 - 6 = 1

So the remainder is 1

[3 remainder 1]
