Area of a trapezium is found by adding the lengths of the two parallel sides, and then divide by '2'.

This sub-answer is then multiplied by the PERPENDICULAR ( 90 degree; right angle) height. between the parallel lines.

Algebraically it is shown as

A( trapezium) = [( l + s) / 2] * h

Here is an example

long(l) = 12

short(s) = 4

height(h) = 3

Substituting

A [(12 + 4) / 2 ] *3

Do INSIDE the brackets FIRST

A = [ 16/2] * 3

A = 8 * 3

A = 24 units^2
