Best Answer

The speed of sound depends on the medium through which the sound waves travel - it is not a constant. So the first requirement would be to measure the speed of sound. Then simply take the square root of the numerical value and make sure the measurement units are "square-rooted" as well.

What are three factors that affect the speed of a sound wave in a substance?

speed of sound is affected by following factors:directly with square root of temperature in kelvinin directly with square root of densitydirectly with square root of modulus of elesticity of the medium

Why does speed of sound depend on the temperature of a medium through which sound waves travel?

Speed of sound increases with the increase in temperature of the medium .In fact the speed of sound is directly proportional to the square root of absolute temp. of the medium.

What is the effect of temperature on the speed of sound?

Speed of sound depends on the density of the medium. As temperature increases density decreases due to expansion in the volume. Hence speed of sound gets affected by the change in temperature. Speed of sound is directly proportional to the square root of the temperature of the medium.

Which one of these would allow sound to travel fastest Density of molecoles?

The speed of sound is proportional to the (square root) of the stiffness of the material divided by the density.

How fast does sound travel through materials?

Every material has its elastic modulus, and the speed of sound is proportional to the square root of the elastic modulus of that material.

What is the square root of the speed of light?

Answser: 431.277173 miles/secAnswer: As far as I know, it doesn't make much sense to calculate the square root of a speed. If you do calculate the square root of a speed, the answer will definitely not be in miles/second, but in root-miles per root-second... whatever that means. To get the energy equivalent of a mass, the SQUARE (not the square root) of the speed of light is used. If the speed of light is expressed in meters/second, the square of this will be in square meters per square second.

What is the square root of the speed of light in metres-second?

The speed of light is 299,792,458 meters per second .The magnitude of the square root of that quantity is roughly 17,314.5 ,and its unit is [ square root of (meter / second) ] .The square root of a speed has no physical significance or meaning.

How does each factor affect transmission of sound waves?

Pressure does not make any change in the speed of sound But temperature affects it. Velocity is proportional to the square root of kelvin temperature Humidity also affects the speed of sound. Higher the humidity more the speed
