You can set up a custom format. You can do that through the formatting settings. The standard format is:

#,##0.00;[Red]-#,##0.00

You would change it to this:

#,##0.00;(#,##0.00)

The second part is for negative numbers, and so it will show it in brackets rather than in red with a minus sign before it.

========================

I don't know which version of the software you're using.

I have the 2010 package. When I pull down Format / Cells and choose Number / Category 'Number',

right there is a list of four different ways to indicate negative numbers.

How do you use brackets in math?

Brackets are very useful to math (especially in Especially in algebra). Example:8+(7x2)=208+7x2=30Still Cant understand? Keep reading. When you put the brackets at the 7x2 it makes u first figure out the answer of the digits in the brackets it self which is 14 so you convert the question to 8+14.

Why do you subtract negative numbers if it is really just adding?

you have to do keep change change keep the first number change the subtraction sign to a add and the negative to a positive

Find the value of 2y-10 given that -3y-5 equals 4 Simplify your answer as much as possible?

y equals negative 3 because negative 3 times negative 3 equals 9 minus five equals four then that means 2 times negative 3 equals negative 6 minus 10 then u have to do keep change change making the question instead of -6-10 its -6+-10 which equals -16

How do you determine negatives or positives in math equations?

Numbers are justified as positive, which is usually written as just a number but can be written with a plus (+) sign in front of the number. (e.g. 15 or +15), or negative. Negative numbers are numbers in the negative integers, or below 0. They are written with a minus (-) sign in front of them. (e.g. -15) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ..::To solve remember these rules::.. When multiplying: positive x negative = negative positive x positive = positive negative x negative = positive When dividing: positive / negative = negative positive / positive = positive negative / negative = positive When adding: In a positive + negative situation, if the negative number has a higher number than the positive (e.g. -25 + 10) then the number is negative, this is always true when adding a higher negative to a positive. If the positive has a higher number (e.g. 25 + -10) then it's just the opposite, it will be a positive number. -------------You can solve these very easily: 25 + -10 --> (25) + (-10) to keep it well organized and easier to work with, now just remember "Keep Change Change"... - keep 25 as it is, change "+" to a "-" and change the "-10" to a positive 10. As a result, you will have: 25 - 10. Now solve. Answer = 15 (positive). If for instance you have a negative + positive, the same rules apply (Keep Change Change) negative + negative = negative positive + positive = positive When subtracting: negative - positive (vice versa), use Keep Change Change as you did with adding positives and negatives. negative - negative, use Keep Change Change positive - positive, use Keep Change Change if the number you are subtracting is a higher number. (e.g. 10-15) If you need anymore help, try asking a more specific question again on Wikianswers, search for math websites on the web, or ask your teacher or college professor for help.

What do the brackets on braces do?

They are metal circles that they cement on your four back teeth, they help keep the wire on your teeth.

What do you do if one of your brackets comes off the tooth but it is still on the wire?

Brackets are usually attached to the wire by a very short rubber band. Cut the rubber band and save the bracket. So see the Orthodontist to put it back. If you have orthodontic wax, put it on top of any loose brackets about to fall off. This will keep the brackets in place until they can be properly replaced.
