How do you know how much money does percent is?

Proportions.

say you want to buy shoes for $56

and you a have a coupon for 15% off so set up a proportion

15% is out of 100% so ..

15 over 100 (or 15/100) then x/56 (x is what your trying to find out) so then cross multiply and divide.

15x56=840

then divide

840/100 (840 divided by 100)

= 8.4

then subtract the total from how much the price is if you want to know the price for and item

So.. 56-8.4 (56 minus 8.4)

= 47.60 is your new total for your shoes!
