5 1/2 is 11/2 as an improper fraction
33/6
To convert a proper fraction to an improper fraction you multiply the whole number by the denominator plus the nominator and put your answer in your nominator spot over your same denominator. EXAMPLE:7 and a half converted into a improper fraction would be 15 over 2.
3 and 1 half as an improper fraction = 7/2To convert 3 1/2 to an improper fraction:1. To get the numerator of the improper fraction:Multiply the denominator 2 by the whole number 3 then add the numerator 1.2. The denominator of the improper fraction is 2.3 1/2:= [(2 * 3)+1]/2= [6+1]/2= 7/2 in improper fraction
It is 5 1/2 or 11/2 as an improper fraction.
A proper fraction is a fraction who's numerator is smaller than the denominator. An improper fraction is a fraction who's numerator is larger than or equal to the denominator. 1/2 is a proper fraction. 3/2 is an improper fraction. Now to understand why the improper fraction is larger than the proper fraction, lets split them up. The proper fraction is one half of a whole, whereas the improper fraction is one whole and one half. Basically the proper is one half, and the improper is three halves. In theory, a proper fraction is always less than the whole number under consideration. On the other hand, an improper fraction is either equal to or larger than the whole number under consideration.
To write the improper fraction for 2 and a half (2 1/2) you would multiply 2 by your denominator (giving you 4) then add it to the numerator (1) to get 5/2, or 5 over 2.
Say you have 2 and a half you multiply the whole number by the denominator and then add the number to the numerator. You keep the same denominator as you had before and it comes out as your improper fraction. If you mean a mixed number to improper fraction, then for example:3 1/2You would multiply 2x3 and add 12x3+1(denominator times the "big" number plus numerator)
It is: 33/6 = 11/2 which is 5 and a 1/2
An improper fraction is which something you can't reduce anymore. A mixed fraction is a fraction where you can multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator, ex. 4 and 1 half multiply 4 and 2 which is 8 and add 1 which is 10, so you now know that 4 and 1 half is the same as 10.
