When you round a number to any place you always look to the number on the right. With rounding the rules are pretty clear:

  • If the number is 0-4 (70, 71, 72, 73, 74) you round the number down to the nearest zero (70).
  • If the number is 5-9 (75, 76, 77, 78, 79) you round the number up to the nearest zero (80).

For practice, try rounding the numbers 16, 6, 52, 104, 9871, and 1026. You can find the answers in the discussion.
