How do you solve -12q plus 4 equals 8q-6?

Get the 'q' together on one side and everything else on the other side.

Add 12q to both sides --> 12q - 12q + 4 = 12q + 8q -6 --> 4 = 20q -6

Add 6 to both sides --> 6 + 4 = 6 + 20q - 6 --> 10 = 20q

Then divide both sides by 20 --> 10/20 = 20q / 20 ---> 1/2 = q

Substitute q = 1/2 into the original equation to make sure you did it right.
