first you want to get 8q by itself because the 8 and the q are together right now. So add 4 to each side to cancel it out on the side that has a -4.

-6+4=8q

simplify.

-2=8q

then to get rid of the 8, you have to divide both sides by 8 and then you get q by itself.

-2/8=q

simplify again.

-1/4=q

q=-1/4 :)
