you turn them both into x halves, and the one with more halves is the larger number.

Hmm, using a calculator or a piece of paper & a pencil, divide the 'bottom' number of each fraction into its 'top' number. Reading from left to right, compare each division answer digit for digit - whenever one fraction has a larger value, then that is the larger fraction. eg 0.739 is larger than 0.738564321 - but not by much!

How can you tell which fractions is greater if both fractions have the same numerator?

Then the fraction with the smaller denominator is larger.

How can you tell a fraction is greater than 1?

If the numerator (the number above the line) is bigger than the denominator (the number below the line) then the fraction is bigger than 1, e.g. 4/3.

How can you tell if the improper fraction is closer to a 0 or 1?

An improper fraction is one where the numerator is bigger than the denominator. For example 3/2 or 10/3. So if you were to divide a big number by a small number, would your answer be less than 1?

How can you tell if one fraction is greater than the other?

If both fractions are made up of positive integers then the easiest method is to cross-multiply.If you want to compare A/B and C/Dlook at AD and CBIf AD > CB then the fraction with A in it ie A/B is bigger. If CB > AD then the fraction with C in it ie C/D is bigger. If AD = BC, the two fractions are equal.

Are all fractions that have a numerator of 1 in simplest form explain?

Yes, that is true. With all positive fractions that can be reduced, the numerator becomes a smaller positive whole number. There is no smaller positive whole number than one, therefore all fractions that have a numerator of 1 are in their simplest form. You can tell if a fraction is in its simplest form by finding the the GCF of the nmerator and the denominator. If the GCF is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form. The GCF of any number and 1 is 1, therefore all fractions that have a numerator of 1 are in their simplest form.

What does comparing fractans mean?

The correct spelling is fractions instead of fractans. Comparing fractions means to tell which fraction is smaller and which is bigger.

How can you tell if a fraction is bigger or smaller?

The bigger the denominator(lowest) the smaller the fraction

How can you tell which fractions is greater if both fractions have the same numerator?

Then the fraction with the smaller denominator is larger.

If 2 fractions have the same numerator but different denominator how can you tell which is greater?

In that case, and assuming both fractions are positive, the one with the larger denominator is the smaller fraction, because you are dividing by a larger number.

Can you please tell me how to change fractions into decimals?

divide the numerator (top number of the fraction) by the denominator (bottom number of the fraction)

How can you tell which fraction is greater if both fractions have the same number?

If the fraction is 4/4 and 4/4 they are the same. if the fraction is 2/4 and 3/4. 3/4 Is larger.

How can you tell if two fractions are equivalent?

Two fractions are equivalent if the fully simplified fractions are equal. If you can multiply the fraction with the smaller numerator and denominator by the same value to equal the second fraction. For example the fractions 3/4 and 9/12. The nominator and denominator, 3 and 4 have both been multiplied by 3 to equal 9/12. Cross multiply. If the products are equal, the fractions are equal. Cross multiplying means to multiply each numerator of one fraction with the denominator of the other fraction.

How do you tell if a fraction is bigger than another?

you can find the percent of each fraction and when you see the biggest percent that is your answer . :) hope this helps u

How do fractions help you tell percents?

Because when you change a fraction into a decimal and change the decimal into a percent it all adds up... Let me explain... 1/2 is a fraction The decimal of 1/2 is 0.5 Move the decimal point 2 places to the right and you get the percent of 0.5 which is 50%. Fractions and decimals are the same, they're just used in different forms.

How can you tell a fraction is greater than 1?

How can you tell if a fraction is greater than another fraction?

make them improper fractions and convert them to have the lowest common denominator. At that point you can just directly compare the numerators to see which is larger.

When two fractions have the same denominator. How can you tell which fraction is larger?

By its numerator as for example 3/4 is larger than 1/4
