Presumably, the theory is that it's easier to multiply by small numbers than larger ones. If there's a number that you need multiplied by 18, multiply it by 3, then multiply that total by 3, then multiply that total by 2.

In gcf do you use factors or prime factors?

Either one will work. If you're listing factors, use factors. If you're using prime factorization, use prime factors.

What are the numbers 77 is relativle prime to?

That's an infinite list. 76 and 78 are on it.

What are the factors and prime factors of 12 show the work?

The factors of 12 are: 1,2,3,4,6. The prime factors are the prime numbers in the factors. So: 1,2,3 are the prime factors of 12.

Find the HCF for these sets of numbers 30, 210 and 700?

To find the highest common factor (HCF) of 30, 210, and 700, you can use the prime factorization method. Prime Factorization: Prime factorize each number: 30 = 2 * 3 * 5 210 = 2 * 3 * 5 * 7 700 = 2^2 * 5^2 * 7 Identify Common Prime Factors: Identify the common prime factors among the numbers: 2, 3, 5, and 7. Multiply Common Prime Factors: Multiply the common prime factors: 2 * 3 * 5 * 7 = 210 Therefore, the HCF of 30, 210, and 700 is 210.

How do you use prime factorization to see if they are relatively prime?

If your numbers have no prime factors in common, they are relatively prime.

How do you use prime factors in everyday life?

Prime factors are part of prime factorizations. Prime factorizations help in finding the GCF and LCM of integers. Finding the GCF helps in reducing fractions. Finding the LCM helps in adding and subtracting unlike fractions. Carpenters do this. Chefs do this. It's entirely possible you will have no need of this, but it's better to know something and not need to use it then not know something you need to use. If you have children of your own, you can help them with their math homework.

What do you call the numbers you use to multiply?

Factors OR multiplicands.

What is the process for getting the GCF of 16 and 20?

The factors of 16 are:1, 2, 4, 8, 16The factors of 20 are:1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20The common factors are:1, 2, 4The Greatest Common Factor:GCF = 4

Can you use the factors of 36 to find the factors of 360?

Yes. Since 36 x 10 = 360, combine the prime factors of 36 with the prime factors of 10.

How can you use a factor tree to help you write the prime factorization?

All composite numbers can be expressed as unique products of prime numbers. This is accomplished by dividing the original number and its factors by prime numbers until all the factors are prime. A factor tree can help you visualize this. Example: 210 210 Divide by two. 105,2 Divide by three. 35,3,2 Divide by five. 7,5,3,2 Stop. All the factors are prime. 2 x 3 x 5 x 7 = 210 That's the prime factorization of 210.

What prime factors of 18 are also prime factors of 24?

With the use of prime factorisation the numbers are: 18: 2,3,3 24: 2,2,2,3 The actual factors are for both 18 and 24 are 2 and 3
