How do you wire contactor for two light circuits through a time clock?

How do you wire a time clock with a contactor with a override switch

Can you mix two hot wires and neutral in same shut-off switch?

Yes two "hot" wires and a neutral can enter into a switch box. This is done on occasions where a three wire enters a switch box, drops off one circuit for the lighting and the other "hot" wire carries on to feed a receptacle circuit.

What are switch legs?

When the neutral wire goes to the switch

How do you hook up one light to one switch in a basement lighting system that has all 10 lights connected to one switch?

If you have good access to the wiring this is relatively easy to do. Each of the 10 lights is connected to another in parallel in a "daisy chain" fashion. Light 1 is connected to the switch, light 2 is connected to light 1, light 3 is connected to light 2 and so forth. Let's say it is light 5 that you wish to switch separately. You can first install the new switch by either adding a new box or modifying old switch box. There are two gang switches that will fit the form factor of a single switch. TURN OFF THE POWER TO SWITCH BOX. Using the same supply input at original switch, add a new black wire to the wire nut for input to original switch and connect this to the input of new switch. Then run a new wire to light 5 and connect black wire to the output of new switch. Connect all the white wires together in switch box and separately connect all bare wires together in switch box. Now at light 5 undo the black and white wire coming from the fixture, and reconnect the wire nuts so that there is a direct connection between light 4 and light 6. Do the same for the ground if present (bare wire). You now have the fixture wires hanging free. Now connect the black wire from new switch to the fixture black wire and white to white and you are done.

How do you wire in a pull chain switch in a bathroom light fixture?

If you are adding the pull chain to an existing fixture then the pull chain switch should have two wires. Wire nut either one to the hot wire coming in and the other to the black wire of the fixture.

How do you do staircase wiring?

A two way switch is required for staircase wiring. A staircase switch will have two terminals. Connect the line wire with the center terminal. Connect the two ends of a wire with the top two terminals and two ends of a wire with the bottom two terminals. The line wire at the center terminal can now be connected with one terminal of the light bulb or light holder.

Is it proper to jump a hot wire to a second switch?

Absolutely! There are many ways of doing this depending on what you want the switches to do.This is referred to as looping. (One would loop the hot wire to the next switch)For instance, take the downstairs of a house. you would take a hot wire from the board, bring it to the switch in the hall, from the same connection on that switch (let's say the top connection), you bring a loop to the top of the lounge switch, and on again to the top of the kitchen switch. Now you wire from the bottom of each switch to the respective light(s)in each room. and bring a neutral wire back from the lights to the board. Make sure not to forget to bring an earth wire to the switches and the lights. Presto: lighting circuit complete. There are other ways of looping the hot. For example you have a switch at the top and bottom of your staircase that controls the same lights. This is a little more complicated to explain though. So the answer is yes, it is perfectly fine to jump a hot wire to a second switch.

How do you add 12v lighting to a golf cart?

If I were doing it, I'd wire it in direct to the battery, and install a fuse in the wire somewhere (somewhere accessible) between the battery and the switch for the lights.

How does a double pole switch work?

A switch is inserted in series with a single wire. When the switch is on, it is as if the wire had not been opened to insert the switch. When the switch is off the wire is open and no current can flow. All a double pole switch does is allows you to switch two separate wires at the same time with the same switch action. A single pole switch just switches one wire.

Why the bulb is not lighting when one wire or terminal is not connected?

When one wire or terminal is not connected to a light bulb, it is not possible for electricity to complete the circuit. When a circuit is not completed, the bulb will not light. An off switch, for example, breaks the circuit.
