You 'work it out' by understanding what an average is, and how to work with it.

-- Write the formula for the average of two numbers.

-- Put the numbers you know into it.

-- Solve it for the number you don't know.

The average of two numbers is

Avg = 1/2 (A + B)

Put in the numbers you know:

16 = 1/2 (12 + B)

You should be able to take this expression and find out what 'B' is. If you can't, then

you need to make an appointment and spend some time with your teacher.

What is theory of averages?

To work out an average on a set of numbers, add all the numbers together, you'll get a number, divide that by how many numbers there were in the first place, viola, you have your average.

How do you determine which number is a prime number?

you try and work out if there are any other numbers that number can be divided by besides 1 and itself.

How do you work out the average of numbers?

You add the numbers together and divide by the number of numbers. So, 2+4+6+8 totals 20. Divided by four gives you five.

How does the word mean work in math?

The mean is the average of a set of numbers in arithmetic, calculating by adding them together and dividing by the number of them.

Is the average the same as the mean?

Not always. An average is a value that acts as a good representative of a set of numbers. Mathematically, the average is the sum of all values, divided by the number of values there are. This is known as the arithmetic mean. There are also two other forms of average, other than the arithmetic mean. They are the Mode and Median. The Mode is the most common value in a list and the Median is the middle value when all are arranged in numerical order.The mean is the most common form of average used. However there are occasions where a mode or median is better. If you have a lot of numbers and one number is huge compared to all the rest, then the mean is likely to give a number that is above nearly all the numbers, so is not very representative. A median or a mode will work better in that situation. The mean will often result in a number that is a decimal, rather than a whole number, even if the numbers are all whole numbers. A median or may result in a whole number, though not always.A mode is good when there are lots of numbers that are in groups of the same, as it will show which number is most common. If there is not one most common number, then there is no mode.yes. the mean is the average.

What 2 numbers multiplied equal 109?

109 is a prime number, so 1*109 = 109, but no other whole numbers will work.

What does as mean in math?

A mean is an average. It's when you add up all of the numbers in a group and divide the sum of the numbers by the number of numbers in the group. We used to joke how it was mean because it involved a lot of work.

How do you work out an average?

add all the numbers together and then you divide it by the number of numbers there are for example if you have 20, 10, and 30 they equal 60 and since there are 3 numbers you divde 60 by 3 and there you go you get 20

How to you work out the values when you have average and number of values?

There is not enough information. For example, 2 numbers, whose average is 10 could be -50 and 70 or 10 and 10 or 9 and 11 or 7.5 and 12.5 etc. All that you know in this case is that the sum of the two numbers = average*number of values = 10*2 = 20

Is 60 a compatible number?

In general, numbers are not compatible or otherwise in isolation. They are compatible in the context of other numbers. Two (or more) numbers are compatible if their sum (or other combination) is a number which YOU find easy to work with. As you acquire more experience, you may find that more and more numbers become compatible.

How do you work out what exactly what is halfway between 6430 and 7010?

add both numbers and divide by 2. this gives the average, the centre number

What two whole numbers are between the square root of 60?

The square root of 60 is a single number; you can't have other numbers "between" it. It does work the other way, though - the square root of 60 is between other numbers.
