Wonderful question! In the "real world" you may not really apply pi, but that doesn't mean it isn't applicable to the real world.
Pi, or 3.142, is used in determining many things.
For example, if you are looking to put a painting in a museum and want to make sure the average viewer of a certain height looks at a certain part (say the middle) you can use pi to find the arc and get an answer.
Pi is everywhere, and very important.
Happy Belated Pi Day (3/14)!!
[ADDED} Setting out art-galleries is just one, specific use. The most common application of Pi is in calculating the circumferences or areas of circles, but it is also fundamental in analysing rotary motions, and harmonics, where pi happily co-operates with trigonometry in the mathematics of oscillations such as sound, vibration and electrical signals .
Because if you ever want to graph that equation you need the actual equation itself to help you graph it.
Mathematical signs would help.
