More of a drug must be given to a larger person to be effective. Too much of a medicine may be harmful to a smaller person, so dosages must be calculated.
Part of health care is billing ... all procedures are charged to the patient. Discounts for medicare / insurance must be calculated, partial payments required from the patient (generally called deductibles and copays) must be calculated and all taken into account to come up with a final bill.
