You simply multiply the two numbers together ignoring the decimal point. You then count the number of decimal places in each of the multiplicands and add them together. In the product, you put the decimal point so that there as many digits after the decimal point as that sum.For example, to multiply 2.63 by 3.271263 * 3271 = 860273.There are 2 digits after the decimal point in the first multiplicand and 3 in the second. 2 + 3 = 5So the decimal point in the answer is placed so that there are 5 digit after it: 8.60273
Dividing by decimal is different from dividing by whole number as you have to multiply by a number to remove the decimal.

Fractions and decimals are usually rational numbers. Besides, multiplying rational and irrational numbers is also similar.

did you get this off of big ideas learning
All whole numbers are decimal numbers.
Similar: In both cases, it is converting a large unit to a smaller unit.Different: Grams to milligrams is multiplying by 1000 or simply moving the decimal point three places to the right. Pounds to ounces requires multiplication by 16.
Dividing by a non-zero rational number is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal.

You write down the numbers you want to add and subtract, making sure the decimal points are aligned. Then, you add (or subtract) EXACTLY as you would add or subtract integers. The decimal point in the solution should be aligned with the decimal points in the original numbers.
