I don't think a "block" is a standard unit of measure. Different areas of a city will have blocks of different sizes. Most "blocks" that I know of are rectangles, so they have long sides and short sides. Why don't you go measure some of the blocks where you live and see how many feet, yards, or meters we are talking about.

But let me give you this illustration for an answer to your question. The average healthy adult will walk 3 miles per hour and can keep up that pace for a long time. At that rate, you would have to walk for almost 9 hours nonstop to cover 25 miles. If you ride an inexpensive bicycle on level ground at a normal speed, you might do 12 miles per hour on it. You would have to ride over 2 hours nonstop, constantly pedaling, to reach 25 miles.

And yet there are thousands of people in this world who can run a 26.2 mile marathon in under 2.5 hours. That's faster than I would normally go on a bicycle.
