There is no set mileage to drive, yet there is a sequence of hot and cold starts. If you have a check engine light on and you need an inspection, here's what you do. Reset the codes by disconnecting the battery (negative ok). Run the vehicle not by mileage, but by driving through a range of conditions. Go through the city, drive through the hills. Stop and go, cold and hot. It doesn't take too long so don't go overboard. Drive maybe 30 to 40 to 50 miles, then it should be ready for inspection. The window is small. Once the readiness monitors (most of them) have come online, it is only a little while before the check engine light will come on again, if a problem is present. So be quick. If you miss it, repeat the process and go sooner.
