There are two answers to that question.

First answer:

The number 1 appears one time in the numeric representation of 1,000,000.

Second answer:

There are one million "ones" if you are asking what quantity of "ones" (1's) that it takes to make 1 million.

If they meant the number 1,000,000 the answer is 1 If it is in the spelling of one million the answer is zero. If the meant the spelling of ones in one million again the answer is one. very tricky question.

And if you meant the amount of numbers in one million, then the answer could also be one million.

There are a thousand because 1,000 times 1,000 = 1,000,000 which is one million
