If this is homework the answer looks like this

  • 16X16= (sq inches per tile)
  • Sq Inches per tile divided by 144 = (sq feet per tile)

(about 2.2 sq ft per tile) but do your own math, that's what a cell phone calculator is for,

  • divide 221 by sq feet per tile= your # of tiles needed

If this is the real world there are grout lines, miscuts & broken tile & undersized tiles to consider, ask the guy at Home Depot to figure it.. I would expect. 100-120 tiles on your cart at check out

How many 16x16 square inch tiles does it take to cover 25 square feet?

Area to be covered = 25 sq ft = 25*12*12 sq inches = 2600 sq inches. So minimum number of tiles required = 3600/(16*16) = 14.06 is 15 tiles. However, that assumes that there is almost no wastage - a very unlikely assumption.

How many 16x16 square inch tiles do you need to cover 72 feet?

It is not possible to answer the question because the area to be covered is not specified. If the area to by covered is 72 feet x 0.25 inches, so that its area is 216 sq inches, then 1 tile should be sufficient. If the area to be covered is 72 feet by 2.5 inches, then 9 tiles will be enough. If the area to be covered is 72 feet x 72 feet, then 2916 tiles will be required. You have not provided all the information required to answer the question properly.

How many 16inch by 16 inch tiles would cover a 11ft diameter circle?

16x16 inch tiles are square. If you place them on a circle, the edges will hang off, so we first need to find the size of the largest square that will fit in the circle. The largest square can be made of four isosceles triangles whose equal sides are equal to the length of the radius, so the area of the contained square is 2r2. An 11-foot diameter circle has a radius of 5.5 feet, so the square has an area of 2(5.5)2 = 60.5 square feet, or 60.5 * 122 square inches = 8712 square inches. The 16x16 tiles are 256 square inches, so 8712 / 256 = 34.03125 tiles that fit completely in the circle.
