this is the same as regconising distance in the metric system. In distance a kilometer is 1000 meters. The same is true for volumes, a kiloliter is 1000 liters.

Think of the prefix kilo as meaning "a thousand of"

'Kilo' is a prefix which means 'a thousand'.

So a Kilolitre is 1000 times larger than a litre.

And, for example, a Kilometre is 1000 metres.
