By most people's standards, a quite a bit of money.

If you happen to be talking about United States dollars, the current value is about $125.54 right now (1 Jan 2012). Use the following search string in Google:

"97 euro in usd"

For most people in developed countries, it's a really good night on the town or perhaps pocket change. For people in less developed countries, it might be a month's wages or more.

If you have 97 Euros in cash and walk into a bank, don't expect to get the full trade value. Banks charge for the service of cash changing by using a depreciated value; you might get 5 or so dollars less on that amount.

If deposited in an account, the charge should be and usually is less.

Small-town banks that don't see much foreign currency might refuse to change it at all, because of the possibility of forgery.
