y = -x^2 + x + 12

You can start by taking out the - as a common factor

y = -(x^2-x-12)

Then factorise it

y = -(x-4)(x+3)

To find the x-intercept, y = 0

0 = -(x-4)(x+3)

So either x-4 = 0 or x+3 = 0

When x-4 = 0, x =4

When x+3 = 0, x=-3

So the x-intercepts are -3,4

When x=0, we can find the y-intercept

Use the first equation: y = -x^2 + x + 12

y-intercept =12

So we know three intercept points, which in co-ordinate form are;

(-3,0), (4,0) and (0,12)

Also, we know that because it is -x^2, the parabola will be upside down because it is a reflection of x^2.

What is y equals 3x?

I don't understand your question but y=3x is the function of a graph, to graph the function you would plug points into the function such as x=0, x=1, x=-1 and you would find the y values at each point so that you can graph it. In this case the graph is a parabola which has a u shape.

What is the difference between a linear function and a quadratic equation?

A linear equation describes a line like 2x+1=y. If you were to graph that equation, then it would give you a line. A quadratic equation is like x^2+2x+1=y. Graphing this equation would give you a U shaped graph called a parabola.

What does a graph with a quadratic relationship look like?

Like a parabola. Not "like": it would be.

What is y equals x2 plus 2x plus 1 on a graph?

Interpreting that function as y=x2+2x+1, the graph of this function would be a parabola that opens upward. It would be equivalent to y=(x+1)2. Its vertex would be at (-1,0) and this vertex would be the parabola's only zero.

What will happen if y equals x plus 2 was changed to y equals x-1 what will the graph of the new function compare with the first one?

It would be less steep

When you graph Y equals negative one would it be a function?

Yes and it will be a straight line intercepting y at -1 and parallel to the x axis

What is the range of quadratic function?

The range of a function when you consider a graph is how high and how low it goes. A quadratic function is usually an arch that goes up to a high point and then back down like the arch of a kicked ball. Or, it can be the reverse which goes down and then up in a mirror image of a kicked ball. The range is what y values would be needed to show ALL the graph. Example; y=x^2+5x-6 The graph crosses the x axis at -5 and 1 it goes down then back up. The range is from infinity down to -49/4

What is the difference between quadratic function and quadratic formula?

A quadratic function is a function where a variable is raised to the second degree (2). Examples would be x2, or for more complexity, 2x2+4x+16. The quadratic formula is a way of finding the roots of a quadratic function, or where the parabola crosses the x-axis. There are many ways of finding roots, but the quadratic formula will always work for any quadratic function. In the form ax2+bx+c, the Quadratic Formula looks like this: x=-b±√b2-4ac _________ 2a The plus-minus means that there can 2 solutions.
