The car will overtake the bike when each vehicle has traveled the same distance. The distance of an object traveling at constant speed is the product of the speed multiplied by the time of travel when the time is in the same units as the denominator units of the speed. The speed of the car is 50/60 = 5/6 mile per minute and the speed of the bike is 10/60 = 1/6 mile per minute
The total minutes traveled by the car will be m and by the bike with be 180 (the 3.00 hours difference between 800 am and 1100am X 60 min/hr). Therefore, at the overtaking point, (180 + m)(1/6) = (5/6)m, or 30 = (4/6)m, or m = 45 minutes.
