From your description this appears to be a Flues model produced in 1912. Sousa guns appear to have had a lot of fancy engraving on them. The "S" on the metal on your gun does not stand for Sousa. Judging from gunbroker.com auction prices, your gun is probably worth $350 - $550, depending on condition and how badly a collector might want one.
For whatever help this is on 20 Aug 05, I am holding an Ithaca M49 which shows that the serial number is 9 digits long and stamped into the left front side, parallel to the barrel, and forward of the trigger in the action case. I hope this helps, Brad This is 28 Aug 05, my Ithaca M-49 has a 6 digit serial number, and is also stamped on the left front side, parallel to the barrel, and forward of the trigger. Dan The earliest (around 1962) models of the M49 Saddlegun didn't have serial numbers. In order to answer this question one would need to know the model number, serial number (not essential, but helps date it), and its condition. If it's an Ithaca, as opposed to an Ithaca SKB, it would be a Model 51, and probably worth in the $300-$400 range.
