Previous person's answer: That may differ depending on how many students total there are but I my self believe that is 33.333333333% and so on. Answer

It looks like something is left out - there is not enough information to give an answer here, because we don't know how many students are in the physics department. For example, if there are 20 then all are in an ethnic minority, so all ten chosen at random will also be in an ethnic minority, and the chance that exactly 6 will be 'ethnic' is of course, zero. A possibility that would make the question easy to answer is that you just left out a percent symbol in the question - that is, that it should say, "20 % of the physics majors".

You need to edit the question. If for example there are 100 students in the department then you can either look up the rules for finding the probability or reason it out from basic principles.

If my guess is correct that the original problem said 20% where you say "20"

then you want to look up the "choose" function, your answer will involve

"10 choose 6" times a power of 0.2 and a power of 0.8. This should be a sufficient

hint to look up the correct answer.

Given eight students four of which are females if two students are selected at random without replacement what is the probability that both students are female?

The probability of selecting 1 female at random is 4/8 There are now 7 students, 3 of which are female so the probability of selecting another female is 3/7 The probability two randomly selected students are female is (4/8)x(3/7)= 3/14
