No, 47 x 59 is not a Prime number. Multiplication yields a number which has 47 and 59 as its factors.

47 x 59 = 2773.

1 is a factor of every number, so one of the factors of 2773 is 1.

Till now we know three factors of 2773: 1, 47 and 59. And a number having more than two factors is not prime.

So, 2773 is composite not prime.

Remember!

For two natural number a and b such that a b 1 then ab is a composite number.

Let us say ab = c.

c is the result of multiplication of a and b, which means aand b are its factors.

And 1 is factor of every number. So 1, a and b are factors of c. There may be other factors of c, but we have obtained 3 factors which indicates that c is not a prime number.
