The word Dimension merely suggests an attribute, not just a linear measure.

Thus Time is commonly referred to as the 4th dimension, for we can not measure its attributes with only length, height, and width.

And degrees of rotation cannot be described with just L,W,H, and so on.

Dimension is just the name of a concept, and we need a new dimension when the property we wish to describe/measure may not be able to be measured in terms of the existing dimensions.
