Distance while scientifically precise is also a relative term. For an Astronaut or Cosmonaut close doesn't matter at all because you are either on target or the mission is a failure and you are shooting off to a distant star with no ticket home. Speaking of targets and shooting, close doesn't matter in artillery, Naval Gunfire or aviation bomb or strafing runs. (It does score in Horseshoes). Failure to put the rounds on target causes a phenomenon called collateral damage. And that is no good for the good guys, makes the evening news, and really upsets both the Brass and the PolIticians. Close to the equator, no it is not. Close to the North Pole, no it is not. How close or not has no importance for like Goldylocks with the bear's porridge Tennessee is JUST RIGHT.
