The pattern on a soccer ball is usually a black pentagon surrounded by six white hexagons. Each white hexagon is surrounded by three black pentagons and three other white hexagons, with those two shapes alternating around the said white hexagon.
None anymore, the classic 20 hexagon and 12 pentagon shape is no longer used.
It isn't called soccer ball because the soccer ball is the ball you use in soccer. See? I have actually heard people call it soccer and soccer ball.
A hexagon is itself a polygon so it makes little sense to ask about hexagons and polygons. In any case, there were no polygons in the official soccer ball at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The ball was the Adidas Brazuca and it was made from six rounded cross-like shapes.
