Cubic feet is a measure of volume, like (but not equal to) a gallon of milk. Feet, is measure of length, like "I am 6 feet tall."

1 cubic foot is the volume held by a box that measures 1 foot on each side. A cubic yard (used for ordering small amounts of top soil or cement) is the volume held by a box (or cube) 3 feet (or a yard) on each side. So one cubic yard is equal to 3x3x3, or 27 cubic feet.

A cubic foot is an amount of water in a bottle, milk in a jug, gasoline in a tank,

air in a balloon, oil in a barrel, and space inside an empty box.

A square foot is an amount of carpet on the floor, land in the front yard, street

under a parked truck, white space on a sheet of paper, and flat space on a wall

that has to be painted.

Basically, a cubic foot is 3D(Volume, f3) and a square foot is 2D(Area, f2)

Also, X2 means "X squared" or X to the power of 2 (X times X) and X3 means "X cubed" or X to the power of 3 (X times X times X)

A foot is a measurement of distance. A cubic foot is a measurement of volume.

In between the two is a square foot which is a measurement of area.

You can think of a line as representing distance, a square as representing area and a cube as representing volume. A line is one dimensional, a square is two dimensional and a cube is three dimensional.

A foot is measuring in one dimension only. A cubic foot is measuring in three dimensions.

How do you get a cubic foot?

Obtain any material that can be carved, something to carve it with, and a ruler. Carve from the material a cube whose edge length is a foot. You now have a cubic foot of the material. Fashion a knife of this material and use it to cut a cake; you have now divided by the material (get it?), leaving you with just a cubic foot. Alternatively, make sure the area of the bottom of your foot is one square foot. If it is, then you have a square foot of foot. A square foot times a foot is a cubic foot, so you have a cubic foot.
