It would not be recommended that you wear 8.7 base curve and 14.0 diameter soft disposable contacts if that is not your prescription. Your eye doctor should order the correct size of 8.6 base curve and 14.2 diameter when he orders your new soft disposable contacts.
Measure it.
That's going to depend on how big a circle the round base is. The bigger the base is, the shorter the cylinder is. Whatever the diameter of the base is, the height of the cylinder will be (3.82) divided by (the square of the diameter of the base).
Volume = Pir2 X height Diameter = 2r Pi = 3.1416 Solve for diameter Volume/height = 3.1416(diameter/2)2 (square root of (Volume/height/3.1416)) X 2 = diameter of the cylinder base
A conic section is a curve formed by the intersection of a plane with a cone (conical surface). If the section is parallel to the base of the cone, the conic section has a fixed diameter and is a circle. Any other plane that does not intersect the apex is either a parabola, a hyperbola, or an ellipse.
Measure the outside diameter and subtract tooth height times two.

The short answer is yes. But you will be doing a lot of guessing and spending money on figuring out your strength, Base Curve, and Diameter. You are better off getting them measured.
Base Curve normally refers to the front curve of the lens. they can range from 1 Diopter of curve to 10 Diopters of curve (normally used for really wrapped Sunglasses like Ray-Ban, Oakley)
Not certain what you mean but try google / involute curve , then click on the involute curvethe involute curve is the fundemantal shape of (amongst others) a spur gear tooth profile, generated from the gear base circle diameter.

Base curve is a term used to describe how a lens in a pair of eyeglasses needs to be positioned to work with a persons eyes. Since everyone's eyes are shaped slightly different, all eyeglasses have a unique base curve.

You must have the patients name, date of the Rx, type of contacts (Brand and / or model) the base curve, the power of each lens. Diameter is not required on soft lens prescriptions but is good to have. Hard lenses would include other factors that I won't get into here. All Rx's expire 1 year after the exam and can not be legally filled. Sometimes they can expire sooner, but that is the doctors call. Dr. Dan
