Take a square with sides that are 4 units long.

The area is the square of the length of the side = 4 x 4 = 16.

The perimeter is length + width + length + width = (4 + 4 + 4 + 4) = 16.

It also works if the side of the square has a length of zero, which is

nice math but has no physical significance.
