Yes, however the object must be a magnetiseable metal such as iron.

To magnetise it you could use a permanent magnet and slide it along the

metal pice in one direction several times. Than you pice of iron for example would be a

permanent magnet.

Another way of doing this is, if there is no permanent magnet available, is to

use a SOLENOID. You could build yourself one: Check it out on the internet.

This solenoid would make your pice of iron permanently magnetic with the use of

ELECTRICITY. This shows that magnetism and electricity are closely related.
