A numeral is simply a number, those terms are synonymous. A variable is a term in a mathematical expression, usually a letter (X being the most popular) which has a numerical value that is not known but can be calculated. For example in the equation

X + 3 = 10, the term X is a variable, and the numbers 3 and 10 are both numerals. If you solve this equation the answer is that X = 7 (and you will easily see that by replacing the letter X with the number 7, you get a true statement which is that 7 + 3 = 10).
