It depends - we did it in one hour a week for two years and we found it very hard.
Others I know were forced to sit their GCSE exams a year early and then if they got an A*, they progressed onto this during their normal 4/5 hours teaching time every week and they found it as easy (or as hard) as GCSE maths.
It also depends on what you're wanting to get out of it, talking to people who are doing A-Level Maths it seems that the course does really gear you up for it, so you've got that edge when you go to Sixth Form or University. If you're hoping for a grade, you should really be doing the latter (above), but if you're thinking of taking A-Level maths, it's a really good thing to have.
I'm expecting to get a C, if that, and if I'll just say 'I studied the course'. Sixth Forms were very impressed by it too though.

you have to pick Maths for GCSE's but you can also pick additional maths which is just more maths than normal eg you may have 5 peroids of maths a week but with additional maths you may have 9 peroids of Maths a week

further maths is a little more difficult, but i find it more interesting. If you are only going to do 1 just do normail maths but if you enjoy maths then its good and impressive to do both
