Einstein's formula, E=MC^2 was arrived at using a thought experiment in special relativity. It cannot be derived in the strictest sense of the word, however any text on basic special relativity would discuss the thought experiment and the logic that went into developing the equation.

Many excellent such texts exist. One example is the text by A.P. French. Similar resources are also available on the web.
