Oh and I don't want answers just some reliable resources that I can use. I keep finding sites that are either very vague or seem like they don't really know what they are talking about. For example, one site started talking about oblique lighting but then described tent lighting techniques saying it was oblique lighting.

The fresnel lights have fresnel lenses that allow for the light to be softer. The fresnel lights also cast a very soft shadow and capture more of an oblique lighting.
