Your ear should NEVER get infected. But of course, it can. 2ga-0ga is a big stretch so your ear might just be cranky. Instead of using tapers, I would use the taping method. Its much easier on your ears and you won't tear your ear. If you just want to use tapers, I'd stop at 1ga and wait a bit before you go to 0ga.

There are many places from which one can buy 0 gauge plugs for ear piercing. These include Amazon, the auction website eBay, Kings Body Jewelry and Fresh Trends.
A dime is approximately 18mm in diameter, which is close to 11/16 inch. In gauge sizes, 11/16 inch is usually equated to around 17-18 gauge for ear piercings, although individual anatomy can vary. It's recommended to consult with a professional piercer for accurate sizing and fitting.
It depends on the person. Some peoples will go back to a small size, just take them out and see. Wait about 3 months, if they aren't to a desires smaller size, you can try putting a fairly larger taper in your ear that will irritate your ear over night, then take it out in the morning, and it should shrink to smaller than before. Repeat the process if necessary.
No, a pencil is not a size 0 gauge size but a 4 gauge.
0 is pretty big if you ask me... you just have to wait awhile for the redness to go down, i mean, you're putting a huge hole in your ear... of course it will be red for awhile. every piercing/gauge is going to be red.
