Then the length becomes x=1 square centimeters
Area of a rectangle = L x W= x(x + 1) =306 square cm
Then x^2 + x =306
Then x^2 + x -306=0
Solve by factoring (Two factors of 306 which multiply to 306 but when added give 1 or x)
As in quadratic equation: The above equation becomes (x + 18) (x -17)=0
Either x = 18 or x = 17 (Since both are positive, the length and with are 18 and square centimeters respectively
