You normally calculate the "least common multiple" for two or more numbers - not for a single number. The "least common multiple" of a single number, of course, is the number itself. Not much calculation involved there. Also, the "least common multiple" of several numbers must be at least as large as the largest of the numbers.
Only if you're comparing a number to itself.
The least common multiple (LCM) is often also called the lowest common multiple or smallest common multiple. Keep in mind that these different terms all refer to the same thing: the smallest positive integer which is a multiple of two or more numbers. The least common multiple of 2, 8, and 10 is 40.
The least common multiple of 4 and 5 is 20. The least common multiple of 15 and 20 is 60. (Thus, the least common multiple of 4, 5, and 15 is 60.) Any multiple of 60 will also be a multiple of 4, 5, and 15.
The greatest common factor is 2 and the least common multiple is also 2.
18 is the least common multiple. Any multiple of 18 is also a common multiple.
An example of a common multiple of 3 and 15 would be 15itself. This is also the least common multiple (LCM).
