You have 72 sq feet of flooring. But ever laminate manufacture puts a different amount in the box. Usually it is printed really clearly on the front.
So, for your floor if you have 72 sq feet and there is say, 20 sq ft in a box, you will take 20 and divide into 72. Round to the nearest box and make sure you have some for waste.

It depends on the pet. If you are potty training a puppy or something....it's a carpet saver. (if you can keep it in the area of the laminate floor.) Other than that they can slip....which can be somewhat amuzing. But I have never heard of a "danger" in those kind of floors.
