What is the importance of statistics in civil engineering?

Civil engineering includes many disciplines including structural engineering, water resource management, waste water engineering and environmental engineering. In each of these disciplines, there is applications of statistics and probability theory. Some topics I have taken from a recent conference on probability and statistics in Civil Engineering (see link):- Loss estimation- Risk assessment and management- Hazard analysis- Probabilistic design- Risk-based optimal design- Maintenance and inspection- Concrete and wood structures- Bridges and special structures- Geoengineering- Earthquake engineering- Wind engineeringThe disciplines of both statistics and probability are important in Civil Engineering. Loss estimation and risk assessment are more in the area of probability modeling, however statistical analysis is necessary to ensure valid data is used in modeling. In addition to the above, air and water pollution analyses requires statistics.See related link.

What is the application of Fourier series in civil engineering?

when we have need to know the temperature in a bar about any distance we can use fourier series to know that and then we can apply sufficient temperature.

What is plane strain condition?

the plane- strain conditions in civil engineering is that state in which the strain in one direction is zero as in long retaining walls, strip foundations, ...etc.

Uses of partial differential equation in civil engineering?

Civil engineers use partial differential equations in many different situations. These include the following: heating and cooling; motion of a particle in a resisting medium; hanging cables; electric circuits; natural purification in a stream.

How is trigonometry used in civil engineering?

Many ways in designing the project, such as solving the structure's force-polygons and calculating component dimensions. Surveying for design, site setting-out and quality-control.
