5 x 7 = 35

5 x 9 = 45

So for a ratio of 5 : 7, whatever the 5 is multiplied by the 7 must also be multiplied by:

7 x 7 = 49

7 x 9 = 63

63 is greater than 50, so multiplying 5 and 7 by 7 gives the solution of 35 & 49:

35 : 49 is the same ratio as 5 : 7
