Nothing, really. There are not seven colours in the rainbow: there is a continuum. Newton, who was the first scientist to seriously study the spectrum, initially saw only four colours but then decided to go for 7 so that it matched the 7 notes of the musical scale. But that, again was not really 7, but 12 notes. So the significance of 7 in nature is mostly a fraud.
