It is a graph which shows the distance of an object

  • from a fixed point (the origin),
  • only in the radial direction

at different times.

The importance of the second bullet is that the distance from the origin, of an object going around it in a circle, is constant. As a result the distance-time graphs of one object in rapid rotation about the origin and another object that is not moving at all will be the same!
