Let the length be (x+2.23) and the width be x:

height*length*width = volume

5*(x+2.23)*x = 124.6 cm3

Divide both sides by 5 and multiply out the brackets:

x2+2.23x = 24.92

Subtract 24.92 from both sides hence forming a quadratic equation:

x2+2.23x-24.92 = 0

Solving the above equation by means of the quadratic formula gives x a positive value of 4.

Therefore the dimensions are: height = 5 cm, length = 6.23 cm and width = 4 cm

Check: 5*6.23*4 = 124.6 cubic cm
