Firstly, there is not such a thing as cubic litres. Litres are decimetres cubed. They are a measure of volume, i.e. the space something occupies.
As the name suggests, it revolves around the idea of a cube. The formula for a cuboid is length by width by height, i.e. 3 dimensional. That is what gives the units the cube.
