Either fog occurs on a day, or it does not. Therefore it is a discrete value.

Yes, is a discrete variable.
" many bodies " traits. The three alleles for blood type is an example of this. Height/size is another example of this and many other variations in animal physiology are examples of this. Discrete traits, everybody has a heart, are in contrast to this, but even in discrete traits there are variations.

From a purist point of view, there is probably only a few true examples of discrete variation in humans. However, we have the common sense practical real world ways to describe some things as discrete. A coma scale used, Glasgow, is discrete. Also, vision is expressed as discrete values. See attached related links. In addition, number of seizures is discrete along with pulse (heart) rate.

I would like to put my vote in for George Mendel. It was he that came up with discrete ratios for physical traits.

Don't know what "this" is, but all symmetric distributions are not normal. There are many distributions, discrete and continuous that are not normal. The uniform or binomial distributions are examples of discrete symmetric distibutions that are not normal. The uniform and the beta distribution with equal parameters are examples of a continuous distribution that is not normal. The uniform distribution can be discrete or continuous.
