Use a factor tree to break up your numbers until all the roots of your number are prime. 7 is already prime and 4 is 2 and 2. Now you scratch off any roots these numbers share, but since 7 and 4 share none you move to the next step. Multiply the remaining roots together (7, 2, and 2) to get your first common multiple. To the get the second and third common multiples simply multiply the first multiple by 2 and then go back and multiply it by 3. This way of solving works for all common multiple problems, including ones with more than 2 numbers.
The answers you should get are 28, 56, and 84.
28, 56, 84
84, 168, 252 and so on.

4, 8 and 12 are the first 3 common multiples of 2 and 4
They are the first three multiples of their lowest common multiple: 36, 72, 108.
The first 3 common multiples of 4 and 12 are: 12, 24, 36
